What We Offer

Picture
We offer daycare from 2 years to Grade R and after school care up to Grade 7. Here at Mary Poppins, all learners are lovingly cared for by experienced, dedicated staff who enjoy a variety of activities with the children on a daily basis.

PARENTS CAN EXPECT THE FOLLOWING:
All parents receive a weekly agenda to enable you to continue discussions at home with your children. In this way, you always know what your children are doing in their classes. All pupils receive four progress reports during the year, at the end of each term. Parents are encouraged to attend "work in progress" mornings to view children's work in classes, look at their workbooks and chat to the class teacher. The Pre-School/Grade R pupils also complete a school readiness assessment.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST:
If required, our Occupational Therapist will assist children with assessments
and weekly sessions at our school.

MEALS:
All children (including after school care pupils) enjoy nutritious meals everyday and pudding 3 times a week (day care pupils only).
Later in the day, we serve a selection of whole wheat bread sandwiches,
fruit & juice or rooibos tea in winter

EXTRA MURAL ACTIVITIES:
We offer a variety of extra mural activities.
Monday - Rugga Roots (Rugby)
Tuesday - Speech & Drama
Wednesday - Swimming Lessons
Thursday - Dancing
Friday - Soccer

Both boys and girls are welcome to participate in all extra murals including rugby, dancing and soccer where the focus is mainly on ball skills and movement.

Our curriculum is an Early Childhood Development Programme based on the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) covering the 6 ELDA’s (Early Learning Development Areas) and is aimed at children from birth to 4 years.
The programme is theme-based.

The 6 ELDAs are as follows:

Early Learning Development Area One - Well-beingThe child’s voice:
I need to experience an environment where I can enjoy good health, nutrition, safety and security and where I can develop confidence and resilience. I want to be happy. This is my right.
I am usually physically very active and my body is developing and growing rapidly. I need enough nutritious food. Proper health care and a safe environment are very important to ensure growth and development. This is my right.

Early Learning Development Area Two - Identity and BelongingThe child’s voice:
I need to experience an environment where I develop a strong sense of self, experience positive relationships and celebrate differences.

Early Learning Development Area Three - CommunicatingThe child’s voice:
I need to experience an environment where I can learn to listen attentively, speak openly, learn to love books, stories and reading, record and to write and to get ready for formal reading and writing as I grow and develop.

Early Learning Development Area 4 - Exploring MathematicsThe child’s voice:
I need to experience an environment where I can find patterns, make connections, recognise relationships, work with numbers, sort out objects, match and classify things. This helps me to think, solve problems and ask questions.

Early Learning Development Area 5 - CreativityThe child’s voice:
I need to experience an environment where I can identify challenges and problems, try out solutions in safety and freedom and experiment with play, make believe play, drawing, painting, cutting and pasting, modelling and music, rhythm, dance and drama.

ELDA 6 - Knowledge and understanding of the worldThe child’s voice
I want to make sense of my world through active participation in my real world and through practical experiments. Please support my learning by providing me opportunities to learn about people, objects, places, plants and creatures from my natural environment.

For Grade R, we follows the School Readiness Programme based on the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement known as CAPS.
It is designed to confidently meet all the CAPS requirements listed by the Department of Basic Education.
The programme is theme-based.

We use the programme designed by Day By Day Early Childhood Development CC and Day By Day Pre-school Curricula who develop our programmes based on the CAPS and NCF documents.
